Frequently Asked Questions

The History of AWFF

AWFF was started by Lefty in May of 2002 as a small Angelfire site. Lefty ran the site by himself for a good while, going through several designs in the first few months. The AWFF Forums were started in August of 2002, and at the time used Invision Board v1.1. Mephista joined staff in October of 2002, and the AWFF.com domain was unveiled in January of 2003, along with a fresh new design, now penned AWFFv1 (view screenshot), designed by Kanitha and modified by Bowser Madius. The site and forums grew exponentially from there, going from around 500 hits a day and 100 forum members in January to 2000 hits a day and over 300 forum members by June 2003. It was in June when AWFFv2 was designed by Bowser Madius and unveiled to the world. Now, in May of 2004, we have over 1200 forum members, and regularly recieve 4000 hits per day, all the while increasing our reputation as one of the more well-known FF fan sites on the web. Our main goal is not profits or hits, we exist primarily to provide accurate Final Fantasy news and an extensive library of images to Final Fantasy fans, developing a friendly online community in the process. It has been a fun ride, and we fully expect things to only get better from here.

Can I use news from AWFF on my website?

We have no problem with you using news articles from AWFF on your website, so long as proper credit is given to AWFF as the source. This does not, however give you permission to take copyrighted AWFF images, source code, et cetera for use on your website.

Can I link to files on your website?

No. Such action is known as "hotlinking". Hotlinking consumes bandwidth, and is strictly forbidden. If you would like to use a button, sprite or other such image on your website, you may download it and upload it to your own webspace.

Do you have any open staff positions?

Not at the moment, no. If we find that we need staff in the future, an announcement will be made on the main page and at the forums. In the meantime, if you would like to contribute to AWFF, please refer to the submissions page.

Why do your pages have an SHMTL extension?

AWFF uses SSI (Server Side Includes) as an easier way of managing menus on multiple pages. When using SSI, your pages have to have a SHTML extension; HTML doesn't work, and if you want to use PHP, you have to use it in an included file. I would use PHP, but I don't know the language well enough at this point in my web design career.

Will you host my website?

Due to space and bandwidth constrictions, AWFF is not currently able to offer this service. I am, however, considering starting a website in the near future that offers hosting, web design, scripting and several other services. Keep an eye on the links page for more details on that.
